Silver linings...

I'll start by saying this post contains no photos. Read on - you don't want them anyway!

Luke got me up about 4:30 this morning and then again around 6:30. I was hopeful he just wanted some love, but he apparently wanted a full blown meal each time. We suspect his crying the second time was what woke Seth. Although at night, Seth goes down first and Luke generally has some sort of loud fit that Seth sleeps right through. Anyway, I was in Luke's room so Seth ended up in bed with Daddy, sound asleep for close to an hour. The rest of our morning progressed pretty much as usual. Seth has decided he prefers to eat at his "little table" (a cute little Seth-sized card table; it is in the kitchen so I don't really mind). He did trip or something once and was dramatically lying in the floor crying. I went to pick him up but he stopped me and said, "No, I want to cry for Daddy." Okay, cry away but he's at work.

Once Luke got up again we headed to Sam's Club for baby wipes and decaf tea bags, and Wal-mart for some groceries. We got home and both boys decided meltdowns were in order. Seth didn't even want to finish his lunch - odd as there were strawberries left on his plate. I finally asked him if he wanted to play while I fed Luke or if he wanted to go to bed. He responded, "I need to go take a nap." I could not disagree so I took him up and tucked him into bed. Not two hours later he was crying. I went to investigate, and try to convince him that he could still use a bit more sleep. He said the trash truck woke him. I explained it was the mail truck and long gone and nothing to see. We compromised and he said he would sleep more but in Mommy and Daddy's bed. This is NOT the norm, but thought maybe I could sneak in a nap too. Oh, was I wrong!!

We got to the bedroom and I sat down on the bed and went to pick him up and thought, what is that boy doing now? Unfortunately, getting sick on my bed, my carpet, me, etc. He doesn't get sick often so he was scared and crying, of course for Daddy, and was just a mess. I think I panicked a little and called Dave and he was able to come home. Which was a huge help so Daddy could try to contain Seth while I did laundry and attempted to clean carpet. Thank you honey!

ALL this to say, as I sat on the floor, on a towel, now back in my jammies, holding my pukey little two year old, it occurred to me - what if he had been at daycare? Who would've cleaned up my baby without being upset with him? How much more scared would he have been getting sick in front of a room full of his peers rather than in front of "just Mommy?" How long would it have taken to track one of us down to leave work and come get him? I was so thankful that I could just sit there in the floor and hold my sickly little guy. Thank you again honey!!

The other silver lining - it was apparently a fluke. He had a light dinner and then went outside with Daddy (carpet preservation) but has been mostly fine since. A little whiny, but he was probably a little hungry too.

Okay, just one photo - but if you sat through all that story, you deserve one! On a completely unrelated note, Luke found his toes, and he seems to think they are quite fun to play with!

Oh Cara!! I'm sorry for your hard day. Poor little Seth. I liked your reflections on daycare and your thankfulness at being able to hold your little guy when he wasn't feeling well.

Thanks for a true-life mommy illustration of a statement made at Luke’s Baby Dedication …. “you are doing the most important job in building lives for eternity”. Not a direct quote. :) :) The story of your day made me teary-eyed for all the moms who miss this very special season with their lil’ones. Also, it makes a great KidsSHARE illustration of how the Lord tenderly holds us after we’ve messed-up . . . okay, that’s a stretch :) :)
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you all for your words of encouragement. It's the oddest thing as he is still getting sick but he will go 16-18 hours between. And he's fine most of the rest of the time. Uugghh.
